In the inaugural edition of Julius Baer Challengers Championship, which will take place in Tel Aviv from Monday, 2022 Challengers Chess Tour champion Pranav Venkatesh will compete against 2021 Challengers Tour winner Rameshbabu Praggnanandhaa. This clash between two teenage prodigies, will be a three-day tournament with $10,000 prize pool, which was especially organized by the Swiss private bank Julius Bär. Pragg vs. Pranav will be a best-of-four matches competition, which will run from December 11 to December 13 and will use blitz & rapid time limits. With India’s most talented youngsters vying for title, this tournament will be eagerly observed by Indian chess fans.

Despite being only 16 years, Pranav has ignited the chess world, as he managed to pull off a surprise victory in the Magnus Academy Challenge. Later in the Challengers Chess Tour championship match, Pranav defeated fellow Indian prodigy Raunak Sadhwani to qualify for next year’s Meltwater Champions Chess Tour, where he will compete against the best players in the world. In 2022, Pranav achieved another milestone of his career, as he became India’s 75th Chess GM on 7th August.

Pragg, meantime, has progressed to greater heights as a result of his victory in the 2021 Challengers Chess Tour. In his first complete season, Pragg dominated the Meltwater competition, defeating World Champion Magnus Carlsen three matches en-route to an overall third-place finish. In two competitions, the FTX Crypto Cup and the Chessable Masters, Pragg finished second. These achievements of Pragg enabled him to bag prize money of $129,000 from 2022 Meltwater Champions Chess Tour.

Starting from 11th December, matches featuring Pragg vs. Pranav will be streamed live on official chess24 platforms, while commentary will be done by GMs like Judit Polgar and Pepe Cuenca. Each day’s matches will begin from 4:00 PM CET.
