Despite their success in Europe this season, Bayern have continued to struggle in the domestic league this season. The Bavarians are currently behind Borussia Dortmund in the Bundesliga.
Bayern Munich’s decision to sack Julian Nagelsmann
Julian Nagelsmann, arrived at Bayern in 2021 and led the German side to a Bundesliga title in his debut season. He also won two German Super Cups with the club. However, the club’s recent performances under him have suffered. Just recently, Bayern suffered a 2-1 shock defeat to Bayer Leverkusen on Sunday. That match was the final spark needed for sacking Nagelsmann during the international break.
Following his sacking, reports suggest that ex-PSG and Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel will to succeed Nagelsmann’s role at Bayern. The news comes as a surprise especially since Bayern are set to meet Dortmund very soon on April 1.
Twitter user Casey Evans highlighted the €65m fee that Bayern had to pay Nagelsmann for axing him mid-season. According to Casey, Bayern brought Nagelsmann from RB Leipzig for a whopping €25m. Bayern then had to pay out €8m for each of the remaining seasons on his five-year deal.
I did not know! I’m a little surprised
Following the news about the dismissal, Manchester City loanee Joao Cancelo shared his shock about Nagelsmann’s dismissal. Cancelo, who is out representing Portugal on international duty stated during a post-match press conference, saying:
I did not know! I’m a little surprised. Thanks to Nagelsmann, he was the one who wanted me at Bayern. All the luck in the world to him.”
The Portuguese defender further added:
As for Tuchel, he made me lose a Champions League final, so I hope he will win it for me this year!”
