Chapter 253 of Jujutsu Kaisen started with a flashback where sorcerers discussed who the strongest Grade 1 was. Nanami, Mei Mei, and Gojo mentioned Kusakabe, but Kusakabe and “Usami” didn’t pick themselves.
Then, the focus shifted to Maki and Sukuna fighting in buildings. Takuma Ino tried to sneak attack, but Sukuna sensed and attacked him.Then, Kusakabe attempted another sneak attack using Nanami’s Cursed Tool, but Sukuna managed to dodge it too.
After pushing Kusakabe away, Sukuna focused on Maki, who was determined to defeat him. The narrator said Maki was the first opponent to truly interest Sukuna. Sukuna grabbed Maki’s face and jumped out of a building.
During the fight, Sukuna injured Maki by cutting off a part of her face. He said their battle would determine which is more important: sorcery or physical strength. Maki noticed Sukuna stopped using a certain technique. Then, Sukuna hit Maki with a powerful attack, sending her flying. The chapter ended with Kusakabe realizing he must now face Sukuna alone, with no one else nearby to help.
