Police reported that experienced photojournalist Ashok Panda passed away on Friday while on route to Puri to photograph Lord Jagannath’s yearly Ratha Jatra.

Who Was Ashok Panda?

Ashok Panda was a senior photojournalist in India and has been recently discussed widely.

He was born in Baisingha, Mayurbhanj, Odisha. In his family, he had his wife and a 10-year-old daughter.

He got his diploma in Photography and Videography from State Council for Technical Education and Vocational Training. Later on, he went to become a famous photojournalist and had been a famous name in the media fraternity of Odisha.

According to his LinkedIn profile, he was multilingual and knows 4 languages that are Odia, English, Hindi, and Bengali. He was 53 years old at the time of his death.

His Career

Starting his career in 1984, Ashok Panda first worked as a photojournalist for Eastern Press Agency. Later, in 1996, he joined Samaya. Additionally, he contributed to The Asian Age, and The Times of India, among other publications.

Just before his death, he served as the Chief Staff Photographer of the Odia daily Samaya and also provided images for a number of regional, national, and international publications and websites.

Achievements Of Ashok Panda

Panda had won a number of prizes, including the Satabdira Kalakara Best Photographer Award (2010), the Panchama Veda Best Photography Award (2011), and the Best Photographer Awards from www.orissadiary.com (2011) and Prerana (2011).

He also won the Ministry of I & B’s photography competition in 2000, and during the 2018 Odisha Media Conclave, he was recognized as the best photojournalist.

Death Cause Of Ashok Panda

On Friday morning, senior photojournalist Ashok Panda was travelling to Puri to cover the Rath Yatra when he was involved in a road accident. Panda’s motorbike is said to have crashed with a road divider at Satasankha within Pipili police boundaries at around 6 in the morning.

He was immediately rescued by Satasankha outpost workers who were waiting at a nearby tea shop.  Panda disclosed his status as a journalist to the community and the police.

Prior to being sent to Capital Hospital in Bhubaneswar, he was taken urgently to a hospital in Sakhigopal. However, at around 7.50 am, Panda was pronounced dead at Capital Hospital. Police said that he had suffered head injuries in the collision.

At the Satya Nagar crematorium, his last rituals were held in front of his family and numerous journalists.
