Damages In Dollar
After nearly two days of deliberation, the jury admitted on Wednesday that Ms Heard’s remarks about his marriage were “false” and that she acted with “actual malice.”
However, they also discovered that Mr Depp had defamed Ms Heard when his lawyer described her allegations of abuse as a hoax in the Daily Mail in 2020.
When seven jury trials announced the verdict, “Johnny, Johnny, Johnny” screams and chanting erupted outside the courtroom.
Mr Depp did not appear in court because of “pre-scheduled work promises,” his spokesman said. The actor is said to have been watching over it from Britain, which has held three surprise concerts with his friend, British musician Jeff Beck since the jury began deliberations on Friday.
On the eve of the decision, Depp received a standing ovation after co-starring with Beck at the Royal Albert Hall in London. In a statement on Wednesday, he said: “I’m humbled.”
He added, in Latin: “Truth never perishes.”
Fairfax County Circuit Judge Penny Azkarate has reduced Depp’s punitive damages to Virginia’s statutory maximum of $ 350,000. This brings his total damage to $ 10.4 million. Ms Heard was not given any compensation in punitive damages
While reading the text, the actress, who sat dark, said in her statement she was “heartbroken.”
She claimed that her jury had ignored evidence in her favour.
