Heard, 36, won one of three counterclaims against Depp, 58, and was given compensation of $ 2 million in damages.

Her 2017 divorced Hollywood star presented a conflicting version of their fateful relationship at trial. For more than six weeks, a court in Fairfax, Virginia, heard pesky details about the fierce marriage of Mr Depp and Ms Heard and their unfortunate consequences.

A poll suggests that many Americans are more interested in legal drama than the war in Ukraine and the historic abandonment rulings that are always expected by the US Supreme Court.

The identity of the people who gave the verdict won’t be made public for a year but the group of seven people is composed of five men and two women, with another man and woman serving as alternates. They range in age from people in their twenties to a person in his sixties of varying ethnicities.

After nearly two days of deliberation, the jury admitted on Wednesday that Ms Heard’s remarks about his marriage were “false” and that she acted with “actual malice.”

However, they also discovered that Mr Depp had defamed Ms Heard when his lawyer described her allegations of abuse as a hoax in the Daily Mail in 2020.
When seven jury trials announced the verdict, “Johnny, Johnny, Johnny” screams and chanting erupted outside the courtroom.

Mr Depp did not appear in court because of “pre-scheduled work promises,” his spokesman said. The actor is said to have been watching over it from Britain, which has held three surprise concerts with his friend, British musician Jeff Beck since the jury began deliberations on Friday.

On the eve of the decision, Depp received a standing ovation after co-starring with Beck at the Royal Albert Hall in London. In a statement on Wednesday, he said: “I’m humbled.”

He added, in Latin: “Truth never perishes.”

Fairfax County Circuit Judge Penny Azkarate has reduced Depp’s punitive damages to Virginia’s statutory maximum of $ 350,000. This brings his total damage to $ 10.4 million. Ms Heard was not given any compensation in punitive damages

While reading the text, the actress, who sat dark, said in her statement she was “heartbroken.”

She claimed that her jury had ignored evidence in her favour.

Something New To The US Judiciary

Wednesday’s ruling marked a turning point in Mr Depp’s legal fate. Two years ago, when the British tabloid The Sun called him a “wife-beater,” the “Pirates of the Caribbean” star lost a defamation decision in Britain.

The continuation of her proceedings in the United States was centred around a 2018 opinion piece by Mr Haad of the Washington Post, who described her experience as “a public figure representing domestic violence.”

She did not mention the names of her ex-husband or other alleged perpetrators. But once one of Hollywood’s most financially-powered stars, Depp said the impact had upset his career.

He sued for $ 50 million. She sued for $ 100 million. Heard and Depp live in California, but the incident was heard in Virginia, printed by The Washington Post.

The two met in 2011 while filming The Rum Diary and got married in February 2015. They got divorced two years later.

The live broadcast gave everyone equal access to the source material. This access allowed millions of people to participate and discuss. There were reaction shots of the main participants, observed facial expressions, and special moments that had nothing to do with the main story.

The sight of security guard Alejandro Romero testifying about Zoom from his car was even new to the American judicial system. Judge Azkarate’s expression at the end of the testimony was sufficient evidence. It was just fascinating to see.

That was also a mystery. Two people who have an opposite view of what happened in a closed room. This meant that millions of people have seen the evidence and made their decisions. We all were detectives.
