On Saturday, July 9th, 2022, former Sky darts Commentator, John Gwynne, died after battling cancer. His funeral arrangements are yet to be publicized. The news of his death was confirmed by his son.

The Labor’s shadow health minister, Andrew Gwynne, took to his Twitter account to pay tribute to his father. He wrote, “It is with deep sadness that I have to post that my beautiful father passed away this morning at 8.05 am. His 18 month-long battle with cancer is now finally over”.

While remembering their first meeting, Jeff said, “I first met John when he was part of the greatest darts commentary team of all time alongside Sid Waddell and Dave Lanning. All three have now sadly passed.

John Gwynne Career

John Gwynne retired from the Commentary team of Sky Sports Darts in 2013 after covering approximately 20 World Championship and 20 World Match plays.

Aside from reporting, John also worked as an English Teacher and commentator. He began working for Sky darts commentary team in 1993 and covered the WDC’s inaugural World championship. Soon after covering 20 World Championships and 20 World Match plays, John resigned from the Sky darts in 2013.

Throughout his career, he has covered many sports events related to cricket, rugby league and speedway sports for Sky Sports.

John Gwynne Personal Life and Net Worth

John was born in Shropshire on April 23rd, 1945 and died aged 77 years. Later his family moved to Manchester in 1957. There he attended Chorlton Grammar School. John was an English teacher and Deputy House-master at the Moston Brook High School in Manchester.
John has a son, Andrew who is the Labor member of Parliament for Denton and Reddish in Greater Manchester.

According to reports, John’s net worth was estimated to be about $2 million. John was inducted in the Professional Darts Corporation Hall of fame in 2014.
