During the mega auction ahead of IPL 2022, Jofra Archer was picked up by the five times IPL champion Mumbai Indians with a whopping sum of rupees 8 crores. This pick by Mumbai Indians was quite a surprising move for the day’s auction as the franchises had been warned to pick the quick bowler at their own risk and with a view to potential participation only in 2023 and 2024 due to his elbow injury but the fifer Mumbai Indians took the risk and made this bold move of signing him up.

Mumbai Indian’s owner Akash Ambani stated that Archer will make a “formidable” pace duo with India’s pace lead Jasprit Bumrah who also was retained by the franchise before the auctions.

“We had discussed his name in the pre-auction meetings, but firmed up on our plans last night after being priced out on all the other fast bowlers,” Ambani said in an interview.

“Of course, he is not available this year but we believe in the best of him and when he is fit and available I believe that with Bumrah he will make a formidable partnership.”
