Prediction
Pegula, the world No. 14, has had a strong start to the season, reaching the quarterfinals of the Australian Open and the semifinals of the Miami Open. Her maiden clay competition, held in Charleston last month, concluded in the Round of 16 for her.
With four victories this week in Madrid, the American has advanced to the final four. In her first-round victory over Camila Giorgi, Pegula displayed incredible tenacity to save a match point. She also ended Bianca Andreescu’s comeback run in the pre-quarterfinals.
On the other hand, Teichmann had a shaky start to the season before rallying in Dubai to reach the quarterfinals from the qualifiers. In her next four competitions, though, she only managed three victories.
This week in the Spanish capital, World No. 35 seemed to have regained her confidence. Teichmann has won four matches without dropping a set, including three-time champion Petra Kvitova, 16th seed Elena Rybakina, 17th seed Leylah Fernandez, and Anhelina Kalinina. The Swiss professional is yet to drop a set this week and that tells her potential so the pick of the match is Teichmann.
