Marcelo Bielsa’s Legacy At Leeds United, Recent Failures, Salary, Contract

Marcelo Bielsa joined Leeds in 2018 and brought the club back to the Premier League two years later after a 16-year absence, as well as a ninth-place finish in the top division in 2020/21.

However, the club decided to sack him after Leeds were stuck only two points above the relegation zone and a run of five defeats in six games after 27 premier league games. Bielsa was paid 8 million pounds per year at the Premier League club with him having a contract till next summer before being sacked.

Defensive Problems Of Leeds United

Leeds United have shipped 60 goals in 26 games, five more than bottom side Norwich, and suffered a 4-0 defeat at home to Tottenham on Saturday after being thrashed 6-0 away at Liverpool in midweek. They now have a goal difference of -30 and the Premier League’s worst defence, having conceded 21 goals in the last six games.

Leeds have struggled to score goals too due to forward Patrick Bamford and fellow striker Rodrigo’s injuries and lack of form. The only stand-out player from Leeds was the mid-fielder Raphinha. With only 11 games left in the season, Leeds lost their patience with Bielsa who failed to find a solution for this situation.

Who Is Jesse Marsch Who Will Become The New Manager Of Leeds United, Tactics, Contract, Salary

Former RB Leipzig manager Jesse Marsch is likely to become Leeds United’s new head coach. After a five-month stint with the German club, the American, who has also coached the New York Red Bulls and Red Bull Salzburg, left in December last year.

After leaving the New York Red Bulls in 2018, Marsch worked as Ralf Rangnick’s assistant at RB Leipzig before being promoted to RB Salzburg in June 2019. He had a good debut season in Salzburg, winning the league and cup double. He was also involved in the development of star striker Erling Braut Haaland.

In April of last year, he returned to Leipzig as head coach, succeeding Julian Nagelsmann, who had gone to lead Bayern Munich.

Some of Marsch’s tactical ideas are pressing, verticality, and counter-pressing and his salary before being fired by RB Leipzig in December was 159,375 USD with him receiving a compensation package from the club.

He is likely to favour a more fluid set-up that relies on territory to keep opponents at bay, rather than a strict man-marking system. Jesse Marsch will move away from 4-1-4-1 and opt for 4-2-2-2 at Leeds United. Bamford may be asked to slot into something closer to a front two.

Coaching Record And Teams Managed By Jesse March

Jesse March has won 159 matches out of 302 games in charge including his amazing season in Red Bull Salzburg. Jesse March is known for his 4-2-3-1 formation, but time will tell if he implements the same formation at Leeds United.

Marcelo Bielsa earned 8 million pounds per year as per contract with Leeds. There is no recent information about March’s expected salary but it will likely be much less than Bielsa’s salary.
