Legendary Jazz saxophonist Pharoah Sanders has left us for heavenly abode, know his cause of death and how he died

The musician died at his home in Los Angeles on Saturday morning, September 24, at the age of 81.

He was surrounded by his family and friends in his last moments. As of now, the cause of Sanders’ death has not been revealed.

Pharoah Sanders was among one of the most influential tenor saxophonists. He was known for his work in the avant-garde genre and for blanding jazz music with spirituality.

The tragic news of the legendary Jazz musician’s demise was confirmed by a record label named Luaka Bop, with whom he frequently collaborated.

The record label took to their social media and penned down, “We are devastated to share that Pharoah Sanders has passed away.

They further added, “He died peacefully surrounded by loving family and friends in Los Angeles earlier this morning. Always and forever the most beautiful human being, may he rest in peace.”

After learning the news of Pharoah Sanders’ passing, fellow musicians and his fans took to social media to pay their tributes.

Band Good Willsmit took to Twitter and wrote, “it seems impossible that Pharoah Sanders was subject to the same laws of mortality as the rest of us. Six decades of vital music.”

He further added, “He carved out an immense legacy & added his depth to the work of anyone he collaborated with. rest in peace to a titan.”

Pharoah Sanders, whose real name is Farrell Sanders was born in Little Rock, Arkansas, on October 13, 1940. Although the singer moved to Oakland in 1959 and began working in jazz music.

In 1965, he joined acclaimed jazz musician John Coltrane’s band, where he recorded several tracks with him until his death in 1967.

Later in 1969, he released his album titled Karma which was touted as his best work. This album brough spiritual jazz to the mainstream and made him immensely popular among listeners.

Following the next 3 decades, he continued his journey with music as both a lead and a sideman.

At the time he released several albums with a number of record labels, including Impulse!, Arista, India Navigation and David Byrne’s Luaka Bop. His net worth stood at $2 million.

In his career, Sanders released more than 30 solo albums while he collaborated with several prominent artists such as Alice Coltrane, Don Cherry, Lonnie Liston Smith, Stanley Clarke, Cecil McBee, McCoy Tyner, Carla Bley and Norma Conners.

In the early 2000s, his recording career started fading but he continued to tour and perform at various festivals including the Bluesfest Byron Bay in 2004, the Melbourne Jazz Festival in 2007, and the Big Chill Festival in 2008.

Sanders’ last recorded work was his collaboration with London Symphony Orchestra and electronic music producer Floating Points to release an album titled Promises.

The album was released last year, i.e, 2021 and received wide critical acclaim.
