While the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has yet to officially clarify the situation, Bumrah’s withdrawal from India’s series opener against South Africa in Thiruvananthapuram on Wednesday has not been encouraging.
BCCI Confirmed Jasprit Bumrah’s Injury
Just minutes before the toss at Greenfield Stadium, BCCI received word of Bumrah’s injury. Taking to Twitter, the official Twitter account of BCCI wrote,
“Jasprit Bumrah complained of back pain during India’s practice session on Tuesday. The BCCI Medical Team assessed him. He is ruled out of the first T20I”
Bumrah, who was practicing at the National Cricket Academy and had earlier missed the Asia Cup due to a back issue, recently participated in the last two T20Is against Australia.
However, he will now go through a lengthy rehabilitation process and report to the NCA in the coming weeks. He is presently receiving scans in Bengaluru, and a complete medical report is anticipated.
Following Ravindra Jadeja, Bumrah is the second prominent player to be disqualified from the T20 World Cup. He had knee surgery.
Why Is It Likely That He Will Not Play The Upcoming T20 World Cup?
A senior BCCI official told InsideSport,
“It’s concerning. But we haven’t had a full medical report on Jasprit yet. As soon as he complained of back pain, he was taken off practice. The medical team is monitoring him. Back injuries are tricky and we do not want to rush his return. The doctors will take a call on what will be his recovery period.”
Additionally, an anonymous senior BCCI official informed PTI saying that there is a high chance that Bumrah will play in the upcoming T20 world cup. He said,
“Bumrah is not going to play the World T20 for sure. He has a serious back condition. It’s a stress fracture and he could be out for a period of six months.”
Reason Behind Jasprit Bumrah’s Recently-Emerged Injury
Bumrah, whose back injury kept him out of the West Indies series and Asia Cup, reported to NCA and finished his rehabilitation. However, because of the T20 World Cup, his comeback was hurried. Before the huge event, the selectors wanted him to play a few matches.
But as the injury worsened, a back stress fracture developed. Next month, Bumrah is anticipated to travel to London for improved care. He may be out of play for more than six months if he needs surgery.
The injury to Jasprit Bumrah was confirmed on Sunday by India’s captain Rohit Sharma. The top fast bowler for India soon made a back discomfort complaint during practice, according to a BCCI statement. He was disqualified from the game in Thiruvananthapuram after the BCCI Medical Team examined him.
