Manga artist Gosaku Outa passed away on December 12, 2022, know his cause of death

Tweet from the official account for Shogakukan’s manga magazine Televi-Kun confirms this.

Sponichi reports that his family has informed him that he is currently undergoing treatment in Gunma Prefecture. The results of a November 29 COVID-19 test sent him racing to the hospital. With his illness, he was unable to go back to his house. His family has already held the burial and farewell ceremony.

His first work, the shoujo manga Boyfriend Yai!, was published in 1969. After he had served as Shotaro Ishinomori’s assistant (under the name of Junichiro Yamagami). His comic adaptations of the Mazinger anime series from the 1970s, such as Mazinger Z, Great Mazinger, and UFO Robot Grendizer, earned him widespread acclaim.

Some admirers held his works in the highest regard due to his distinct individuality that set it apart from the anime. In addition, he was the show’s original creator for the robot anime series Groizer X, which aired in 1976–1977.

Ota, as Nagai’s assistant, drew various manga, such as Mazinga Z (1972-73), Grande Mazinga (1974-75), Grendizer (1975-77), Getter Robot (1974-75).

What is the cause behind Gosaku Outa’s death?

Sponichi then published a story saying that after Outa contracted a coronavirus, he was initially transported to the emergency room at a facility in Gunma Prefecture.

The unfortunate conclusion of the report is that Outa “developed pneumonia and did not return home.” A private funeral and farewell ceremony were performed for him with immediate family members.

After working as an assistant to Shotaro Ishinomori, the mangaka behind Super Sentai (also known as Power Rangers) and Kamen Rider, Outa made his professional debut in 1969 with a shouja manga titled Boyfriend Yai.

Yamagami was his pen name when he started

His work on the Mazinger anime series, as well as on Mazinger Z, Great Mazinger, and UFO Robot Gredizer in the 1970s, is interesting because he began his career under the name Junichiro Yamagami.
