Just minutes after transferring from Leicester City to Tottenham, the English star James Maddison tweet on Gareth Bale went viral
On Wednesday, James Maddison removed his previous tweets in which he called Gareth Bale a “monkey” and made fun of Tottenham. The remarks first surfaced again on social media after it became apparent that the Englishman would soon be moving to Tottenham for £45 million. Following acceptance of a £40 million offer plus $5 million in add-ons by Leicester City, the England international will have a medical with the North London club.

Astute followers saw those two posts about the former Spurs star Bale from 2012 and 2013 had been removed. Maddison’s initial tweet dated November 17, 2012, said, “I hate Gareth Bale with a passion, calm down you monkey, [Jack] Wilshere is 10x better than you chimpanzee.”
Another tweet from Maddison from March 10, 2013, said, “Hope Luis Suarez destroys Tottenham today, don’t like Spurs! Especially that monkey everyone’s on about!” Suarez scored in Liverpool’s 3-2 triumph against Spurs on that specific day while he was a player for Liverpool. Maddison was a junior team player for Coventry City at the time he made the remarks when he was 15 and 16 years old. Before his relocation, the remarks surfaced once more on social media.
There are currently no posts from the player’s Twitter account that date back before December 2019. Prior to this, Maddison verbally agreed to joining Tottenham.
Maddison to Spurs: salary and contract
The arrangement involves further performance-related add-ons in addition to the initial £40 million fee, according to a fresh explanation from The Telegraph. Maddison, who apparently just got back from a quick trip to Ibiza, is due for a medical today at Tottenham’s Hotspur Way training facility.
The speculation claims that the England international has signed a contract for £170,000 per week, which will make him Tottenham’s fifth-highest earner after Harry Kane, Tanguy Ndombele, Son Heung-min, and Ivan Perisic (Sportac).
At the King Power Stadium, he is being paid £110,000 a week. Due to the club’s relegation to the Championship, Maddison, who is in the final year of his contract with Leicester, was supposed to receive a 50% wage reduction.
