The James Beard Restaurants and Chef Awards presentation is returning to Chicago for the very first time until 2019, know the award winners list for 2022
The James Beard Organization has unveiled the year’s slate of cook and restaurant contenders, and chefs, restaurant owners, and other hospitality-world professionals have congregated at the Lyric Theatre of Chicago for the big flashy, red carpet event, hosted by chef Kwame Onwuachi. (There was even an underneath cold opening, and Produced inconsistent performed an opening monologue, replete with an Oscars slap joke.)

Following the virus outbreak hiatus and a 2020 incident that raised concerns about the awards’ credibility, the James Beard Organization has implemented a series of reforms, including performing an audit and afterward broadening the judging panels. This year’s prize categories are also distinct from well before years, with a focus on more diversity.
The prize for Rising Star Cook so far This year has been renamed, Innovative Chef. Edgar Rico, cook and founder of Nixta Taqueria in Austin, received the prize, which no longer would have any age limitations. Chef Katie Button’s Asheville eatery Crate won for Exceptional Catering, which replaced Exceptional Service and so now honors a restaurant that makes “efforts to establish a sustainable work culture” in addition to citizenry care. This year, there is no Distinguished Wine, Spirits, or Beer Specialist award.
