Russell claims he first sipped lean when he was 14 years old and accidentally took it from a fridge while out with buddies.

JaMarcus said, “Some syrup, for us, is equivalent to drinking wine or whatever. I’m not condoning it, but it was the cheapest method for these boys to drink stuff back then. You’re starting to figure out a method to cope if you grew up in poverty, don’t you?”

Russell claims he continued to drink in the NFL:

Was He flawless? As a participant? As a human being? “No way,” Russell replied. In the NFL, He shouldn’t have been sippin’ like that. He should have kept in better shape.

โ€œI ainโ€™t no saint, but come on, man. They shoot your ass up with the strongest painkillers on earth just to get you out on the field. But, youโ€™re drinking some cough syrup and now youโ€™re a criminal?โ€

Russell claims he does not consider himself a failure and has no regrets.

JaMarcus Trenell Russell (born August 9, 1985) is a former American football player who spent three seasons with the Oakland Raiders in the National Football League (NFL). He was taken first overall by the Raiders in the 2007 NFL Draft after being highly coveted at LSU, where he was the 2007 Sugar Bowl MVP.
