According to reports, a two-car crash claimed the life of Jack Meachum, the head boys lacrosse coach at Carmel High School, on August 22.

The community’s well-known coach, age 31, died from his injuries at the spot and was declared dead shortly after the fatal collision. According to authorities who described the event to News 8, at 7.30 p.m. on Tuesday, deputies from the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office were summoned to a crash site at State Road 38 and Six Points Road in Sheridan.
Officers allegedly found Meachum’s SUV in a ditch with another vehicle on top of the roof when they arrived. Brennan Smith, 26, the driver of the second vehicle, was taken to an Indianapolis hospital but subsequently pronounced dead, according to the authorities, while Meachum passed away at the site.

Jack Meachum, the head coach of the boys lacrosse team at Carmel High School, passed very unexpectedly, but it was not yet known what caused him to crash.
As authorities sought to solve the case, tributes from the beloved coach’s peers and friends in the community poured in. In a letter to parents, Carmel Clay Schools praised Jack Meachum’s contributions to the athletics department. The school wrote:
For six years, Jack poured his heart and soul into the Carmel Lacrosse program, achieving the remarkable feat of securing a state title just last year. Jack’s impact reached far beyond the field, as he mentored our student-athletes and dedicated significant time to working with youth.”
Jim Inskeep, the athletic director at Carmel High School, tweeted that the abrupt death of a beloved coach who had purportedly just been chosen Head Coach of the Week had left the community in shock.
He made a significant impact on the lives of student-athletes and the Lacrosse Community in Indiana. Jack was named the CHS Head Coach of the Year by his peers last week. Our prayers are with his wife, family, players, coaching staff, and friends.”
More than $33,000 has been donated to a GoFundMe that was started to help with the costs of Meachum’s funeral services, surpassing its initial $25,000 goal. Jack Meachum, who is survived by his wife and family, was referred to as a mentor, an inspiration, and a real friend on the fundraising page.

According to LinkedIn, Jack Meacham recently graduated from the University of Indianapolis. He served as the state chair for USA Lacrosse, which is based in Maryland, and a member of the executive committee of the Indiana High School Lacrosse Association.
