India’s shooting team won four gold, three bronze, and two silver medals in Egypt to Hungary’s two gold, and one silver. Have a look at how many medals Indians bag at the event.

Anish Bhanwala, the defending champion from the Commonwealth Games, won the men’s 25m rapid fire pistol event on the final day of the ISSF World Cup 2023 in Cairo on Thursday.

Bhanwala earned 21 points overall after six series to place third in the four-man medal match.

Christian Reitz, a German participant, also made it to the medal round but was eliminated after the fourth series with the lowest score of 13 points.

Massimo Spinella of Italy defeated Clement Bessaguet of France 32-30 to earn the gold medal after the two players battled until the eighth series, with Bessaguet settling for the silver.

The Indian shooting team ended the Cairo meet with a sizable gain after winning four gold and three bronze medals in rifle and pistol shooting competitions.

India won the most medals at the shooting World Cup with seven, followed by Hungary with two gold and one silver. Italy came in third place overall with one gold and one silver.

On that particular day, only one Indian, Anish Bhanwala, who placed seventh in the qualification round with 581 points, advanced to the eight-man ranking round.

Arpit Goel (572 points) and Adarsh Singh (570 points) finished 22nd and 26th, respectively, in the shooting competition for ranking points only (RPO).

Bhavesh Shekhawat (569 points) and Ankur Goel (569 points) finished 27th and 28th, respectively, out of a total of 41 competitors.

None of India’s five shooters from the 69-woman qualification round for the women’s 50m rifle 3 places advanced to the top eight.

Sift Kaur Samra (585 points), who ranked 16th overall, was followed by Manini Kaushik (584 points), who came in 22nd.

Anjum Moudgil, an Olympian, placed 27th with 583 points. Competing for RPO, Ashi Chouksey (579 points) and Shriyanka Sadangi (579 points) placed 45th and 46th, respectively.

Prior to this, India topped the medals table at the ISSF World Cup thanks to victories by the mixed teams for the 10m air rifle (Rudrankksh Balasaheb Patil and Narmada Raju) and the 10m air pistol (Varun Tomar and Rhythm Sangwan) events.

The world champion in the men’s 10m air rifle individual competition last year at the same site, Rudrankksh Balasaheb, also took home the gold medal in the men’s 10m air rifle individual competition.

In the men’s 50-meter rifle three positions, Olympian Aishwary Pratap Singh Tomar took home the gold medal.

For pistol and rifle shooters, the ISSF World Cup 2023 in Cairo was the second competition of the year. At India’s Bhopal, the third stage will run from March 20 to March 31.

Here are the key points:

  • Tushar Shahu Mane of India finished second in the qualification round but was unable to compete in the ranking round because he was only playing for ranking points (RPO). Vidit Jain, another RPO participant from India, finished 15th in the qualifying round.
  • Rudrankksh Patil earned a second gold medal in as many days in the shooting World Cup in Cairo. With Narmada Raju, he has participated in the mixed team 10m air rifle competition.
  • Narmada Raju’s best finish in the women’s 10m air rifle category was eighth. Indian participant Tilottama Sen finished third in the ranking round and went on to win the bronze medal.
  • Tilottama Sen finished the qualifying round in second place with a score of 632.7. Ramita placed seventh, but Narmada was the last shooter to earn a spot in the ranking round.
  • In the qualifying round, Elavenil Valarivan, a former world No. 1, and Nancy played for RPO, where they finished eighth and fifteenth, respectively.
