With the 2023/24 Indian Super League (ISL) season all set to begin very soon, check out the full list of clubs and their head coaches below along with the salary per match of a referee
The ISL 2023/2024 season is all set to begin on the 21st of September, with the opening clash between Kerala Blasters and Bengaluru.
ISL referee salary per match and football fees in 2023-24 season
For an ISL match, a referee makes approximately Rs.10,500 per match day as daily allowance and there is no fixed salary. If a referee officiates 20 matches per season, the salary is around Rs.2 Lakh per season.
Foreign referees in the ISL are paid between $400 and $500 (approx. Rs 26,000 and Rs 32000) a day, regardless of whether these are match days or not.

Mohun Bagan Super Giants are the reigning champions and will be looking to defend their title in the upcoming campaign.
Kerala Blasters FC
Head coach/manager – Ivan Vukomanovic
Ivan Vukomanovic is a former Serbian professional player who began his managerial career with Standard Liege in the Belgian Pro League. He then had some brief stints with Slovakian club ŠK Slovan Bratislava and Cyprus’ Apollon Limassol FC. Vukomanovic joined Kerala Blasters FC in September 2021 ahead of the 2021/22 season.
The Serbian international helped the Blasters reach their first ISL final since 2016 during his debut campaign. Vukomanovic then signed a three-year contract extension ahead of the 2022/23 season. Last season, the Blasters finished fifth in the league and qualified for the playoffs but got knocked out following a controversial walk-off.
Mumbai City FC
Head coach/manager – Des Buckingham
Des Buckingham is the head coach of Mumbai City FC who joined the side back in October 2021. During his first season, the 38-year-old helped his side secure the fifth place in the league. Meanwhile, in his second season, Buckingham led his team to their first Durand Cup final, losing out to Bengaluru FC 2-1. In the last season of the ISL, Mumbai City FC won their second League Winners’ Shield.
Mohun Bagan SG
Head coach/manager – Juan Ferrando
Juan Ferrando joined the ISL in 2021 as head coach of FC Goa, and led them to their first Durand Cup title in his debut campaign. However, in December that same year, ATK Mohun Bagan triggered a release clause in his contract and signed him. The following season, Ferrando led ATK to third place during the regular season, and entered the playoffs. The team eventually beat Bengaluru FC on penalties and secured their first ISL title.
Bengaluru FC
Head coach/manager – Simon Grayson
Bengaluru had a disappointing 2021/22 ISL season, failing to win any major silverware and missed out on the ISL playoffs. The club’s current head coach is Englishman Simon Grayson, who joined on a two-year contract back in June 2022.
During his first season with the club, Grayson led his team to win the 131st edition of the Durand Cup. The following season, he led the side to a fourth place finish, securing a playoff berth. Although the team entered the finals, they lost out to ATK Mohun Bagan 4-3 on penalties.
Punjab FC
Head coach/manager – Staikos Vergetis
I-League club RoundGlass Punjab FC (now Punjab FC) appointed 47-year-old Staikos Vergetis as their head coach in 2022 on a multi-year deal. During his first season with the club, Vergetis led the team to their first-ever I-League title. The team are now set to play in the 2023/24 season of the ISL. Up until now, Vergetis has managed 25 games with the club, setting a 68% winning ratio.
East Bengal FC
Head coach/manager – Carles Cuadrat
Following a series of disappointing seasons, East Bengal FC have decided to appoint former Bengaluru FC head coach Carles Cuadrat as their new head coach. Cuadret joins the side on a two-year contract, starting with the upcoming 2023/24 ISL season. Cuadrat has previously led Bengaluru FC to their first and only ISL title during the 2018/19 season.
Odisha FC
Head coach/manager – Sergio Lobera
Odisha FC have a new head coach ahead of the new season – Sergio Lobera. Lobera is a renowned figure in Indian football, having previously worked with FC Goa and Mumbai City FC. Lobera’s debut campaign in the ISL was with FC Goa, and he helped the side finish third in the league. In this second season, he helped FC Goa finished at second place in the league. During the 2019/20 season, he helped FC Goa win the League Winners’ Shield.
NorthEast United FC
Head coach/manager – Juan Pedro Benali
Ahead of the 2023/24 ISL campaign, NorthEast United FC have appointed new head coach Jaun Pedro Benali. The 54-year-old began his managerial career at Madrid-based Las Rozas CF back in 1997. He has worked with various clubs in his career across countries like Spain, Tunisia, the UAE, Morocco, Qatar, Japan and Finland.
FC Goa
Head coach/manager – Manolo Márquez
Following a disappointing outing last season, finishing at seventh place in the ISL, FC Goa have brought in Márquez as their new head coach. Márquez is joining on a multi-year deal. The Spaniard last managed Hyderabad FC and even led the side to their first-ever ISL title in the 2021/22 season. Last season, the team finished at second-place before losing to ATK Mohun Bagan on penalties during the semi-finals.
Hyderabad FC
Head coach/manager – Thangboi Singto
Following the departure of head coach Manolo Márquez, Hyderabad FC have opted to appoint their assistant coach and technical director Thangboi Singto as the new head coach on a multi-year deal. Singto previously managed I-League club Shillong Lajong FC and led them to three consecutive Shillong Premier League titles in 2015, 2016 and 2017.
Jamshedpur FC
Head coach/manager – Scott Cooper
Ahead of the start of the new campaign, Jamshedpur FC have brought a new head coach in the form of Englishman Scott Cooper. Cooper has served under football management for almost 25 years now and last served as the head coach for the Philippines men’s national football team.
Chennaiyin FC
Head coach/manager – Owen Coyle
Owen Coyle is back to serve as the manager for one of the most successful clubs in ISL history. Coyle left Chennaiyin FC two seasons back to lead Jamshedpur FC and a season at Queen’s Park FC. However, following two back-to-back seasons with eighth-place finishes, Chennaiyin FC have brought back Coyle ahead of the 2023/24 season.
