Elano Was Named The Golden Boot Winner In The 2014 ISL Season
Elano was one of the most well-known players in the Indian Super League’s initial season. The former Manchester City midfielder arrived to a lot of fanfare, and he lived up to it.
Elano marked his presence with a spectacular free-kick on his ISL debut against FC Goa after signing a three-month deal with Chennaiyin FC. The carnage continued throughout the season, with the Brazilian finishing as the top scorer in the 2014 edition with eight goals in 11 games, earning him the inaugural ISL Golden Boot winner.
Stiven Mendoza Is The 2015 ISL Golden Boot Winner
Stiven Mendoza of Chennaiyin FC won the ISL Golden Boot title in 2015 after scoring 13 goals in 16 matches. With 11 goals, Iain Hume was the closest challenger.
The Super Machans were enthralled by Mendoza’s ability to take on opponents and defeat them with speed. Chennaiyin FC finished third in the points table thanks to his efforts before going all the way to the final to face FC Goa.
Mendoza rose to the occasion on the grandest stage, scoring the game-winning goal in the last minutes of injury time to claim the title and the ISL Golden Boot award.
Marcelinho Was Named The Golden Boot Winner Of The 2016 ISL Season
Marcelinho, who will be playing for his fourth club in the ISL 2020-21 season, won the ISL Golden Boot in 2016 after scoring 10 goals and providing five assists. His performance as a member of the now-defunct Delhi Dynamos propelled the team to the semi-finals after placing third in the points table.
In 2016, the ISL featured just eight clubs, and Marcelinho’s closest challenger was ATK’s Iain Hume. That season, the Canadian international has seven goals in 14 games.
Ferran Corominas Was Named The ISL Golden Boot Winner For The 2017-18 Season
Ferran Corominas is the first player in ISL history to win two Golden Boot trophies, the first of which he received in his rookie season. After a brief stay in Cyprus, the Spaniard joined FC Goa in 2017, and it didn’t take him long to establish himself in India. Coro beat eventual winners Bengaluru FC’s strike combo of Miku (15) and Suni Chhetri (14) in his first season with the club, scoring 18 goals in 20 games.
Corominas, a 34-year-old ISL rookie, has scored 18 goals in his first season. In fact, it is the most goals scored by a single player in an ISL season.
Ferran Corominas Is The ISL Golden Boot Winner For The 2018-19 Season
Ferran Corominas, the ISL’s all-time leading scorer with 48 goals, won his second ISL Golden Boot after scoring 16 goals in 20 games this season. The Spanish striker was miles ahead of his rivals, Mumbai City FC’s Moudou Sougou and NorthEast United’s Bartholomew Ogbeche at the time. Both players had 12 goals in 18 games.
Nerijus Valskis Is The ISL Golden Boot Winner For The 2019-20 Season
Chennaiyin FC, who placed 4th in the ISL standings during the league rounds of the 2019-20 campaign, would be thankful to Nerijus Valskis for helping them reach the final. The Lithuanian attacker scored 15 goals in the 2019-20 ISL season, tying for joint-highest goal-scorer.
With both ATK Mohun Bagan’s Roy Krishna and Kerala Blasters’ Bartholomew Ogbeche having 15 goals, the ISL regulations had to dive deeper to find the man with the most assists to award the ISL Golden Boot.
Valskis and Krishna had both scored 15 goals and supplied six assists, narrowing the final selection to the man who had played the fewest minutes. Valskis, who went on to win the ISL Golden Boot title, had only played 20 games, one fewer than Krishna.
Ogbeche came in third place with 15 goals and a single assist in 18 games.
Igor Angulo Is The Golden Boot Winner In The ISL 2020-21 Season
In his first ISL season, FC Goa attacker Igor Angulo edged off ATK Mohun Bagan star Roy Krishna to win the Golden Boot title. Angulo, like Krishna, scored 14 goals in 21 games, but his improved goal-per-minute ratio helped him win the honour.
Krishna, meantime, lost out on the Golden Boot trophy for the second year in a row after scoring a league-high 15 goals, although Nerijus Valskis had more assists. In the ISL 2020-21 season, the rules were revised, and the goals per minute ratio was used to break ties.
