It is safe to say that the standard and quality of Indian football has significantly improved ever since the inauguration of ISL in 2013. In this round-robin format, the league comprises of 11 clubs according to the new format.
Over the years, the ISL has witnessed some big international names being a part of it, be it Nicholas Anelka, Alessandro Del Piero etc.

Igor Angulo
Igor Angulo snatched Roy Krishna from becoming the 1st ever Indian Player to win the Golden Boot Award for the second time ISL’s history. Both these payers scored 14 goals in the 2020-21 edition, yet Angulo’s better goal-per-minute ratio helped him win the award.
Nerijus Valskis
He is Lithuania striker who evidently carried Chennaiyin FC to the 4th spot in the 2019-20 edition. Interestingly, Valskis was not the clear top scorer, he tied with ATK Mohun Bagan’s Roy Krishna and Kerala Blasters’ Bartholomew Ogbeche, each with 15 goals to their name as well, the ISL rules had to dig deeper and identify the player with most assists to give away the ISL Golden Boot.
Ferran Comminas
He is Spanish who has registered an impressive tally of 33 goals in the ISL since making his debut into the league in 2017. In the recent development of FC Goa’s form in the ISL table, Comminas has had a huge offensive role.
Mercelo Leite Periera
He scored 10 goals and had 6 assists registered against his name to win the Golden Boot in the 2016 edition. When Mercelo clinched the award in 2016, his closest competition was ATK Mohun Bagan’s Iain Hume who had 14 goals.
Stiven Mendoza
He was one of the most popular foreign players to play in the ISL during the initial years. Stiven Mendoza surely lived up to his height when he clinched the highest scorer award after scoring 13 goals and 3 assists in 16 matches.
Elano
The former Manchester City player hit the ground running for Chennaiyin FC in the inaugural season of the ISL. Elano was one of the best players in the division and went down as a firm fan favorite, with his tally of 11 league goals earning him the Golden Boot in the inaugural edition of the ISL.
