Defending champions Hyderabad FC: As it happened

Since making their ISL debut in 2019, Hyderabad FC has advanced steadily, going from a last-place showing in their first game to capturing the championship in 2022.

The Nizams’ ability to score goals in the title-winning season set them apart from the other teams.

It was a brilliant move by manager Manolo Marquez to acquire Bartholomew Ogbeche from Kerala Blasters. By scoring 18 goals in 20 games, the Nigerian won the Golden Boot title.

In the league phase, Hyderabad FC scored the most goals with 43 goals, finishing second in the standings and earning a spot in their first playoffs.

During the knockout rounds, HFC overcame an early deficit to defeat ATK Mohun Bagan 3-1 in the first leg and maintained their advantage in the second to go to the final with a 3-2 aggregate victory.

Despite Rahul KP giving Kerala the lead, Hyderabad’s Sahil Tavora tied the score to force a shootout.

Laxmikant Kattimani, the goalkeeper, saved three penalties in the decisive game, helping Hyderabad win their first ISL championship.
