Jan Seda of the Czech Republic earned the first ISL Golden Glove award in 2014 after keeping six clean sheets in 14 games for FC Goa.
Apoula Edel of Cameroon won the honour in 2015 while playing for Chennaiyin FC and recording six clean sheets in 13 games.
Amrinder Singh, a former goalkeeper for Mumbai City FC, became the first Indian to win the Golden Glove trophy in 2016 after recording five clean sheets in six games. It’s interesting to note that he played 540 minutes in that edition, the absolute minimum required to be considered for the prize.
Since then, Indian goalies have taken home the Golden Glove honour in every edition. It’s largely because ISL teams favour Indian goalkeepers and maintain their overseas quota for outfield positions.
The 2017–18 Golden Glove was won by former India international Subrata Paul, who played for Jamshedpur FC, and was followed in 2018–19 and 2019–30 by Bengaluru FC star Gurpreet Singh Sandhu.
Sandhu still holds the record for the most clean sheets by a goalie in a single ISL season with 11 clean sheets in 19 games during the 2019–20 season. He is the only goalie to have twice received the ISL Golden Glove.
The Goalkeeper will win the Golden Glove award and a cash prize of $4,500 (approximately ₹3 lakhs.
