Recently, social media platforms are buzzing with criticism for the 32-year-old forward with many anticipating that Salah would once again post a Christmas tree picture with his family along with wishes on the festivals which would result in a dip in his performance.

The viral-posts of Mo Salah, due to which the professional footballer faces widespread outrage online every season, feature him and his family beside a Christmas tree. The Liverpool star, captioned last year’s image with “#MerryChristmas” on his X and Instagram accounts.
In the photo, Salah, his wife Magi, and their daughters Makka and Kayan posed in matching pyjamas, continuing his tradition of posting festive Christmas pictures.
While Christmas is not a holiday traditionally celebrated by Muslims, some do participate in its festivities. However, Salah’s post drew backlash from certain Muslim fans, who are criticizing his actions for being a Muslim and celebrating a non Islamic festival which they consider as Haram.
Meanwhile, there are many who are joining in the fun as they remarked about Mo Salah’s annual Christmas post being a “curse” on Liverpool, while citing poor results in previous years following similar posts.
Many have also gone onto term Salah’s un-Islamic practice of celebrating Christmas as a curse on him with his performances typically dipping in the league after his Christmas tree picture. However, the Liverpool player who has created a record in the 2024-25 season with 15 goals and 10 assists, the first player in the Premier League to touch double figures in both aspects before Christmas before the myth of the curse with his goal against Aston Villa immediately after Christmas a few years back.
Social Media Users Reaction
One such fan took to X and wrote, “I shall be unfollowing you and stop supporting Liverpool because you are celebrating Christmas with the Christians.”
Another one expressed disappointment, saying, “I’ve been a Liverpool fan since I was born, but I will stop supporting the club because you are celebrating Christmas with the Christians. You’ve just lost me as a fan, Mo Salah. Goodbye!”
A third fan added, “Mo Salah, I loved you as a Madrid fan and admired you as a player, but after this tweet, you’ve disappointed me. If you don’t delete this, I’ll have to unfollow you.”
Despite the backlash, many fans came in to support the Egyptian star. One described Salah as the “African GOAT,” saying, “To us, you are Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo, and Kylian Mbappe combined. Enjoy.”

Mo Salah’s Contract
In another update, Mo Salah’s contract situation remains a point of interest, with his teammate Cody Gakpo expressing hope that the forward will extend his stay at Anfield.
For the unfamiliar, Salah’s current contract, a 3-year deal worth $54.6 million, includes an annual salary of $18.2 million and expires at the end of the season.
