The Incident was captured on live television during BBC’s broadcast of the tournament, while seven-time World Champion Stephen Hendry was providing commentary.
As the camera panned across the audience, it showed a man standing behind a young boy and seemingly nibbling his left earlobe. The boy didn’t seem to react negatively to the gesture.
Once the man and the boy noticed that they were on camera, they waved to the viewers. However, the footage quickly went viral, sparking outrage on social media, where many accused the man of inappropriate behavior towards children.
The controversy escalated, with numerous social media users calling for immediate action against him. Reports suggest that the accused went into hiding after the incident.
South Yorkshire Police Announced Investigation
The South Yorkshire Police announced an investigation into the incident after receiving reports based on the viral video.
A police spokesperson confirmed that they were examining the footage and would pursue any necessary legal actions.
A statement from the South Yorkshire Police Department reads, “On Thursday 25 April at 9.20 pm, we received a call to inform us of a video circulating on social media of a man and a boy at the Crucible in Sheffield. We are aware of the footage and officers will be reviewing the content.”
