Richardson is a native of Dallas, who started running at a young age. Before she attended the University of Louisiana State, she was a standout athlete at Carter High School and she won the NCAA championship of 2019 in a college record of 10.75 seconds during her first year at LSU. Sha’Carri won numerous accolades during her debut season, including SEC Freshman, the Track Athlete of the Year award, and the 2019 Bowerman trophy, the top prize in collegiate track and field. Following the excellent season, Sha’Carri Richardson revealed on social media in June 2019 that she would be leaving LSU to chase her lifelong dream, to become an athlete.
Richardson set a record new personal best at 10.72 seconds in April of 2021 by becoming the seventh-fastest woman of all time. With this, she became the fourth-fastest American woman in history. Sha’Carri won the 100-meter women’s sprint held at the US Olympic Trials in 10.86, which earned her a spot in the Summer Olympics of 2020. After winning the 100-meter final at U.S. Trials, it was revealed on 1st July that Richardson had tested positive for the use of cannabis, nullifying her victory and then disqualifying her from the Olympics.
