Moreover, he is now uncertain about the New Zealand series as a result of this. Samson will not play in the remaining games of the series after taking a knock to his right knee in the first T20. In the first over of the first T20, the player was injured while diving to make a catch. Although there is swelling in the knee, he continued to play. He’s been taken to rehab after having scans.

Official statement from the BCCI

“Sanju Samson, the wicket-keeper batsman for Team India, will not play in the remaining three T20I matches against Sri Lanka. Samson damaged his left knee during the first T20I at Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium while attempting to field a ball close to the boundary ropes. The BCCI Medical Team brought him to Mumbai this afternoon for scans and a professional opinion, and they suggested rest and rehabilitation.”

Sanju Samson’s injury: How did it happen?

Pathum Nissanka missed a shot off a delivery from Hardik Pandya in the opening over of SriLanka’s chase. Samson tried to hurry in to capture the catch while fielding in the cover. However, he made a mistake in his dive and lost the opportunity.

After the event, he kept playing football despite overnight swelling. After scans in Mumbai, he has been declared ineligible. His rehab will start. The injury also makes him questionable for the New Zealand series, though.

Is luck on Rahul Tripathi’s Side?

  • India vs Zimbabwe ODIs (3 matches)
  • India vs South Africa ODIs (3 matches)
  • India vs Bangladesh (3 matches)

Tripathi was called up for his first T20I against Ireland earlier this year, although he didn’t play in that series. Tripathi may be the best choice to bat at position three since Virat Kohli will also be resting for the upcoming series against Sri Lanka. Regarding his performance in the IPL, the 31-year-old has participated in 76 games and scored 1798 runs at an incredible strike rate of 140. Tripathi has ten fifty-scores to his credit and appears at ease against both pace and spin bowling.
