Olympic champion Keely Hodgkinson is now in the lead to win BBC Sports Personality of the Year with fans wanting to know if she has a husband or partner

Even though Keely Hodgkinson is predicted to win, she will have fierce competition from a number of other athletes. Jude Bellingham, an England football player, is one of them. He had a great first season with Real Madrid, winning the Champions League and La Liga and helping the team get to the Euro 2024 final.

Along with Olympic triathlon gold medallist Alex Yee, England cricket legend Joe Root, and Para cyclist Sarah Storey, teenage darts star Luke Littler is also a contender.

Hodgkinson received diplomas from Loughborough College in Leicestershire and Fred Longworth High School in Tyldesley. She enrolled in Leeds Beckett University’s criminology program in 2020 and took a year off in 2021.

Hodgkinson had earlier talked about the stress that distance put on her previous relationship while talking about her personal life. “Long-distance killed it,” the GB star revealed in an interview with the Sunday Times about dating an athlete who had lived overseas. Because of her schedule, they might not see each other for weeks at a time while he lived in Texas and later Italy. It was difficult with them eventually breaking up.

She is currently unmarried and single and had said, “I’m not really interested in dating right now. I’ve never been on the apps. I like meeting people in real life.”

Keely Hodgkinson career

Before focusing entirely on running, Keely Hodgkinson swam with the Howe Bridge Aces before joining the Leigh Harriers at the age of nine. After British heptathlete Jessica Ennis-Hill won the gold medal at the 2012 London Olympics, she was motivated to run, as her father had urged.

Keely went on to win numerous age-group titles and minor medals, which culminated in her winning the European Under-18 and England U20 titles at the age of sixteen. A year later, following an injury-plagued winter, she took home the European U20 bronze. She was 10 years old when she started her 14-event winning streak in 2013.

She had to restrict her training and starts in 2015 after undergoing a mastoidectomy to remove a tumor in her ear, which left her 95% deaf in that ear. She also experienced knee issues. Hodgkinson won the England U20 800-meter title in June 2018 at the age of 16. She broke the championship record with a run of 2:04.84 when she won the gold medal at the European Athletics U18 Championships in Győr, Hungary, the following month.

At a meeting at Citta di Savona, Italy, on May 15, Hodgkinson ran a 400-meter personal best of 51.61 seconds to start the 2024 season, placing second behind Ireland’s Sharlene Mawdsley.
