Eight months after manager Pep Guardiola promised to resign if he was misled about Manchester City’s financial concerns, the club has been charged with more than 100 violations of Premier League rules.

As a result of Manchester City being accused by the Premier League of more than 100 Financial Fair Play violations, Pep Guardiola’s chances of leaving the team have increased.

Previously, he had said that he would be willing to leave the team if he discovered that they had lied to him about their financial situation.

Following a four-year investigation into City’s spending, the Premier League has brought over 100 complaints against the club.

City is a team that has won numerous trophies under Guardiola and is controlled by the Abu Dhabi state, which has amassed enormous money.

City has previously been banned from participating in European competitions for two years after facing an investigation over its finances. After Guardiola vehemently defended his employers in the media, the suspension was ultimately overturned.

As soon as the allegations were announced on Monday, according to bookies Betfair, Guardiola’s odds to become the next Premier League manager to resign were cut from 100/1 to 11/2, making him the third favourite to succeed Jesse Marsch after Nathan Jones at Southampton.

Additionally, Guardiola is now merely 1/2 to start the upcoming season at City, and 6/4 to stay there.

The Spaniard promised he would resign from City’s management if he discovered they had misled him about their financial dealings following his team’s Champions League elimination last season.

Last May, Guardiola said, as per www.mirror.co.uk :

Why did I defend the club and the people? It’s because I work with them. When they are accused of something I ask them: ‘Tell me about that.’ They explain and I believe them.”

Since City was hit with more than 100 charges by the Premier League for breaking their financial regulations, that pledge to leave has gained more significance.

The alleged violations are said to have occurred over a nine-year period, and if found to be true, penalties such as points reductions and fines may be imposed.
