Know if Nithyananda is dead or alive
A video of a self-described godman speaking at a Shivaratri Satsang went viral recently. But reportedly because of a glitch, the sermon was abruptly interrupted in the middle.
There haven’t been any more satsangs since, which has led to conjecture over his whereabouts. In the midst of this confusion, rumours circulated that Nithyananda had died two days prior. In a video released last Sunday, his nephew Sundareswaran added to the mystery by claiming that Swami (Nithyananda) had “sacrificed his life to protect Hindu Dharma.”

In Tiruvannamalai, Tamil Nadu, Nithyananda was born Arunachalam Rajasekaran to his mother Lokanayaki and father Arunachalam on 1 January 1978. He is a member of the Vellala Saiva community. His birthdate is contradicted by a 2003 United States visa, which listed March 13, 1977, and a signed declaration in a 2010 Karnataka High Court lawsuit, which said January 1, 1978.

Yogiraj Yogananda Puri noticed him for the first time when he was three years old. He became public as Nithyananda in 2002, when he was 24 years old. He claims that during his monastic wandering days in the Himalayas, Mahavatar Babaji bestowed this name upon him in a mystical encounter.

47-year-old Nithyananda previously served as chairman of the Hindu University of America in Florida. Watkins’ Mind Body Spirit magazine named Nithyananda one of the “100 Most Spiritually Influential Living People” in 2012.

The Panchayati Mahanirvani Akhara bestowed the title of Mahamandaleshwar to Nithyananda in a private ceremony in February 2013.
