Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild was arguably most people’s game of the year when it released in 2017. The game offered players with addictive gameplay and stunning open-world.
Legend of Zelda Tears of the Kingdom, sequel or prequel to BOTW?
In short, Legend of Zelda Tears of the Kingdom is a sequel to Breath of The Wild. Nintendo have exclusively stated that the Legend of Zelda Tears of the Kingdom is a sequel to BOTW. The confusion comes from some fans suggesting on Reddit that it is a prequel instead. However, Nintendo has never marketed TOTK as anything else other than a direct continuation of BOTW.
The first teaser for TOTK appeared at E3 back 2019. The video released on YouTube still has the title ‘Sequel to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild’. However, some fans have still theorised that TOTK will feature elements connected to the past. These assumptions could have come from time travelling aspects of the game. However, there is no confirmation about this so far.
Players who wish to play a prequel to Breath of the Wild, can simply do so with the unique Hyrule Warriors Age of Calamity. This version came out in 2020, and it is reportedly set 100 years before the events of BOTW.
