Born on August 16, 2001, Almora district of Uttarakhand, Sen hails from a Hindu Bengali family. The Indian Olympian is widely known as a former World Junior No. 1.

Lakshya hails from a family who has a history with badminton sport. Lakshya’s father, D.K. Sen is a badminton and his grandfather, Chandra Lal Sen, initiated the first badminton game in their area.

Lakshya Sen’s first coach was his father, who earlier revealed that Lakshya’s badminton journey began when he begged his father to take him to an all-India level badminton tournament in 2010.

During the tournament, Lakshya caught the attention of various coaches, one of them recommended him to Prakash Padukone, who eventually took him under his wings.

Sen worked hard at the Prakash Padukone Academy and even broke his mentor’s record, reaching the final of the National Badminton Championship at the age of 15.

He studied at Veerseva Senior Secondary School in Haldwani, Uttarakhand.
Lakshya won gold at the 2018 Asian Junior Championships in boys’ singles and at the Summer Youth Olympics in the mixed team event.
