As the top gymnast in India, Dipa Karmakar won a gold medal in the women’s vault event in Tashkent on Sunday, becoming the first person from the nation to earn a gold medal in the Asian Senior Championships.
The 30-year-old Dipa finished first in the vault final with an average of 13.566 on the last day of competition in Uzbekistan’s capital city.
In the vault final at the 2015 Rio Olympics, Dipa took home a bronze medal. The year before, she had finished fourth in the same competition.
