Earlier, a film journalist Rahul Raut took to X and reveal that, “Film Companion is SHUTTING DOWN.”

Following his tweet, reports surfaced indicating that the digital movie reviews platform is being shut down and speculations started swirling around that Chopra might be joining Hollywood Reporter.

However, as of now there is no official confirmation regarding the same. Reports also suggests that the journalist will receive a substantial payout for leaving FC.

For the unversed, the Hollywood Reporter is owned by Penske Media Corp, that also publishes Variety, Deadline Hollywood, Rolling Stone, and Billboard.

Anupama Chopra, who served as the festival director of the MAMI Mumbai Film Festival from 2015 to 2023, is widely recognized as a film critic, author and journalist.

According to her official LinkedIn profile, Chopra is currently working as the editor in chief at Film Companion, a digital platform for “film lovers,” to curate the perspective on Indian cinema.

Chopra launched her digital platform, Film Companion aka FC in July 2014 as a pan-India platform for entertainment journalism, featuring reviews, interviews, features, and masterclasses on cinema, television, and web series.

As per reports, Chopra has authored several books on Indian cinema and has contributed as a film critic to NDTV, India Today, and the Hindustan Times.

In addition, she also hosted the weekly film review show “The Front Row With Anupama Chopra” on Star World.

Parents & Siblings

Born Anupama Chandra in Calcutta, India, into the Chandra Prasad family, she also spent time in Badayun, Uttar Pradesh. Her father, Navin Chandra, was the eldest of his siblings.

Her mother, Kamna Chandra, was a scriptwriter known for films like “Prem Rog” (1982) and “Chandni” (1989). Chopra’s sister, Tanuja Chandra, is a film director and screenwriter, and her brother, Vikram Chandra, is a novelist.

Chopra also spent several years in Hong Kong during her teenage years.

Educational Qualification

She earned a BA in English Literature from St. Xavier’s College, Mumbai, in 1987, and an MA in journalism from Northwestern University’s Medill School of Journalism.

At Medill, she received the Harrington Award for academic excellence and promise in magazine journalism.

Husband & Children

Anupama Chopra is married to Vidhu Vinod Chopra, a prominent producer and director of Hindi films. Their daughter, Zuni Chopra, born, is also an author of three books, including a novel and two poetry collections. Their son, Agni Dev Chopra, is a cricketer.
