Aditya gained recognition for being the son of Uddhav Thackeray, who is also an Indian politician who served as the 19th Chief Minister of Maharashtra and the grandson of Balasaheb Thackeray. Aditya Thackeray was the President of the Yuva Sena, which is a youth wing of Shiv Sena and he was a Maharashtra Cabinet minister and was inducted as cabinet minister of the state cabinet on 30th of December in 2019.

In the same year, Thackeray became a lyricist and he released a private album Ummeed, for which he wrote all eight songs on his own. Aditya led the BMC’s controversial project to import baby penguins from South Korea. Apart from major opposition from experts about Mumbai’s climate being unsuitable for this species, BMC decided to go ahead with the plan and they shipped 8 baby penguins for a total value of INR 2.5 crores. One of the penguins, Dory, died due to a bacterial infection and faulty climatic conditions after 2 months of arrival in India.
