Irene Cara’s Family And Education
Irene Cara got married to a stuntman and film director Conrad Palmisano in Los Angeles in April of 1986 and they got divorced in 1991. Her father, Mr. Gaspar Escalera was a factory worker and a retired saxophonist and he hailed from Puerto Rican. Her mother Louise was a movie theater usher and she was a Cuban. Cara Excalera had 2 sisters and two brothers. Her education was carried out in Florida.

At the young age of 3, Irene was one of 5 finalists for the “Little Miss America” pageant. Cara started to play the piano and studied music, acting and dance when she was quite young. She began her dance lessons when she was 5 years of age. Her performing career began on Spanish-language television with singing and dancing. Cara made early Television appearances on The Original Amateur Hour and Johnny Carson’s The Tonight Show.
From 1941 to 1972, Cara was a regular part on the PBS’s educational program The Electric Company as a member of the show’s band, The Short Circus. As being child, Irene Cara recorded a Latin-market Spanish-language record and an English-language Christmas album. She was a part of tribute to Duke Ellington which featured Stevie Wonder and Roberta Flack
Cara appeared in on-and-off-Broadway shows of theatre including musicals Ain’t Misbehavin’, The Me Nobody Knows, Maggie Flynn opposite Shirley Jones and Jack Cassidy, and Via Galactica with Raul Julia. Cara was Daisy Allen on the 1970s daytime serial Love of Life. Cara contributed to a dance single in 2006, titled “Forever My Love” to the compilation album titled Gay Happening Vol. 12.
As of 2016, Cara had residences in New Port Richey, Florida and Santa Fe, New Mexico. Cara appeared in the 2nd season of the CMT’s reality show Gone Country.
