The Centre’s decision to fire Satish Chandra Verma, a senior IPS officer who had aided the CBI in its probe into the alleged fake encounter case of Ishrat Jahan in Gujarat, was put on hold by the Supreme Court on Monday for a week.
On August 30, one month before his scheduled retirement on September 30, Verma was fired from his position.

Verma was permitted to file a complaint against his dismissal with the Delhi High Court by a bench of Justices KM Joseph and Hrishikesh Roy, who also stated that it was up to the HC to decide whether to uphold the stay or vacation of the dismissal order.
After a departmental probe established the allegations against him, including contact “with public media” while serving as the chief vigilance officer of the North Eastern Electric Power Corporation, Shillong, the High Court granted the home ministry permission to take action against Verma.

Satish Chandra Verma is a renowned Indian IPS officer. He has been in the news because the supreme court put a hold on the central government’s decision to fire him.
He is a native of Bihar. He graduated from the Indian Institute of Technology in Delhi. Later, he was admitted to the prestigious postgraduate business administration program offered by the Indian Institute of Management. He is aged between 60-65 years.
His Career
Satish Chandra Verma is a 1987 batch IPS officer. The 1986 batch officer is still engaged as the Inspector General of Police, although his juniors from the 1987 batch and later batches are working as Director General of Police level officials (IGP).
Zeeshan Johar, Amjadali Akbarali Rana, Javed Shaikh, and 19-year-old Ishrat Jahan were all killed in a staged encounter with security forces on the outskirts of Ahmedabad on June 15, 2004, according to Verma, a member of the Special Investigation Team that the High Court appointed in 2011. This conclusion was made in 2011.
