IPL Resume Date: Likely Window for BCCI to resume IPL 2021

  1. As per IPL Chairman and a senior BCCI official, the IPL 2021 could resume just before India hosting the ICC T20 World Cup, in September. Moreover, if the Covid-19 situation is under control, it could be a good practice for the domestic as well as the international players to have decent practice on Indian pitches itself before the grandest T20 festivity.
  2. Another alternate could be to shift the IPL to a particular city wherein all the teams could be placed in different bio-bubbles close by to the match venue and could start after a 15-day break.

Keeping in mind that the quarantine period is also completed for those who have contracted the virus during that time period. This could be done after the month of May, after regulatory observation of the surge in Covid-19 cases in India.

  1. The last likely window to resume IPL 2021 for BCCI could be in June. If the World Test Championship can be postponed to July, the remainder of the IPL 2021 edition can be played within a month’s time. Keeping in mind that 29 Matches had been done and dusted.

Having said that, to resume the IPL 2021 edition in June, BCCI would clash with Pakistan Super League who too have identified their dates from June 1 to June 20 to finish the remainder of their season. But there are not so many overseas players who play both in PSL and IPL. Furthermore, the players can also be given a chance to prefer in this scenario.
