IPL Mega Auction 2025 bidding process rules

According to reports, the final IPL Auction 2025 Players List features a total of 574 players. Out of this, 366 players are from India, while the remaining 208 are from overseas, including 3 from Associate Nations. However, not all the 574 players that make the final list will go up for sale during the two-day auction in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.

The auctioneer will only call out the first few players or sets in a set-wise random order. The remaining players will enter the fast-paced bidding process, where franchises will select the players who make the list. The BCCI has reportedly informed all the franchises about the start date for the accelerated process and player nominations.

IPL Mega Auction 2025 accelerated round

The accelerated process comes into play after the auctioneer calls out the first two sets of capped and first set of uncapped players in a set-wise order. During this round, the franchises will select the required players who will feature in the auction. According to reports, the accelerated round in the IPL Auction 2025 will begin with player numbers 117 to 574. This means that it starts from the second set of uncapped players.

The 117th player, uncapped batter Ricky Bhui, will mark the beginning of the accelerated round. This streamlined phase will occur in two stages: First Phase: Franchises nominate players from the remaining list (117 to 574) that they wish to see in the auction and the Second Phase: Any players left unsold or un-presented during the full list can be reintroduced if franchises nominate them to be presented again.

This process helps keeps the auction dynamic and allows franchises to revisit potential options if their bidding plans change and also speed up the auction of the remaining 450 players.

In a communication to the franchises the BCCI wrote, “For your planning purposes please note, subject to timings it is envisaged that the accelerated process will start after player No. 116. The first accelerated process will cover all the players from 117-574. Franchises will be asked to nominate a set number of players from this group by 10 PM on the evening of Nov 24. Once these players (117-574) have been presented, franchises will be requested to submit the names of players (unpresented/ unsold) from all those on the full list of 574 for further accelerated presentation. This will be covered in more detail at the auction briefing on Nov 23 2024.”
