IPL is the biggest T20 league in the world, know about the media rights auction for the 2023-2027 seasons and the live streaming

It’s not only because of the players and fans but the Money which is generated by the league. The media rights of the cash-rich league are also very costly as the viewership of the tournament is also huge. A five years contract with star India is about to expire and the bidding is sooner to begin for the cycle of 2023-2027. IPL Media Rights auction is set to take place on 12h June 2022 in Mumbai.

IPL Media Rights auction over the years

In 2008 the media rights of IPL’s first season were sold to sony for 5,232 cr in legal auction. Then till 2015 BCCI sticked with sony as they were their legal winners of the fisrt ever auction.

In 2016 the figure changed drastically as the winning bid went to 16,347 cr. The bid for media rights for till 2016-2022 were sold to Star India for a mommoth figure. Now as the deal with Star india is about to expire BCCI is looking for a high bid of around 50,000 cr and the base price is set around 32,890 cr.

IPL media rights auction for 2023-2027 in detail

In the span of 5 years total 410 matches will be played including playoffs and double headers. BCCI will be charging money according to per match with the broadcasters.

BCCI has divided the Media rights in 4 categories to generate greater revenue.

Package A (TV Rights for indian Sub Continent)

This category consist of the right of Telivision telecast of IPL in india and subcontinent. It is the most expensive rights among all four of them. Base price for the Package A has been set around (49 Cr. INR /match) by BCCI. The 5 year sum will fall around 18,130 Cr.

Package B (Digital Rights for India and Subcontinent)

The viewers who watch IPL on OTT platforms in india and Subcontinent on thier Phones and Laptops come in Package B. The Base Price for the categorie has been set (33cr. INR /Match) by BCCI.

Package C (Digital Rights for Non Exclusive Matches)

A special package has been announced by BCCI for the Non Exclusive games played in playoff. 18 of the 74 matches in IPL 2023 will be non exclusive. BCCI has put a base price of Rs.11Cr /match.

Package D (TV and Digital Rights for Rest of the world)

This package is comparitvely cheaper than the other 3 as it is for the Foriegn viewers. The base price of (3cr INR /MATCH) has been set by BCCI. The sum total will be 1,110cr for the 5 year deal.

The IPL media rights e-auction will take place on June 12 ( Sunday) and the bidding process will start at 11:00 AM. There is no end date till a final winning bid is found and as this an e-auction, there will be no live streaming.
