The start of the IPL 2024 match between Gujarat Titans (GT) and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) on Monday (May 13) had been postponed and eventually cancelled due to adverse weather conditions.

The game, scheduled to take place at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, had been affected by inclement weather.

The western coastline of the nation experienced a dust storm sweeping through Mumbai during the afternoon, accompanied by a considerable amount of rainfall.

Reason Behind Delay

Ahmedabad also encountered a similar storm. The accumulation of water on the pitch cover and continuous lightning led to a delay in the toss.

As the rain intensified around 7:30 PM, the toss remained pending, extending the wait for eager fans anticipating the action. The limit to start a five over match in the IPL is till 10:55 PM IST after which play is called off. A minimum of five over match by both the sides is needed to give a result in an IPL match. There are no reserve days for regular league stage matches with both teams sharing a point if the match is called off due to rain. Reserve days are kept for playoffs and the final.

Weather Update 

The weather outlook for the match scheduled at Narendra Modi Stadium predicted partly cloudy conditions with a temperature of 38°C. The real feel temperature was projected to hover around 36°C.

There was a possibility of precipitation, with forecasts hinting at rain or thunderstorms. Cloud cover was anticipated to be approximately 55%.

Points Table Prior To The Match

The Gujarat Titans currently stand at five victories out of twelve matches, placing them in eighth position on the points table. To secure a coveted spot in the IPL 2024 playoffs, they must win their remaining two games with substantial margins.

Following their recent triumph over the Chennai Super Kings by 35 runs in the league match, GT’s skipper Shubman Gill voiced optimism about their playoff chances.

Gill expressed confidence despite slim odds of 0.1 or 1 percent for our qualification.

In contrast, Kolkata Knight Riders have secured their playoff berth with nine wins in 12 games.
