BCCI initiated a unique go-green approach during the playoffs.
For each dot bowled during the IPL 2023 Qualifier 1, Eliminator, Qualifier 2, and Final, the BCCI and Tata Group collaborated to plant 500 trees across India as part of India’s green drive. 45 dot balls were bowled in the final at the same Ahmedabad location when CSK defeated GT to win their fifth IPL championship, which equates to 22,500 trees being planted.

Mohammed Shami tops the list of bowlers with the most dot balls in IPL 2023, while Devon Conway is the top batter to have played the most dot balls.
The bigger picture
A total of 84 dot balls were bowled during Qualifier 1, which saw CSK defeat GT at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai to secure their final position, resulting in the planting of 42,000 seedling trees.
A total of 96 dot balls were bowled during Mumbai Indians’ victory over Lucknow Super Giants in the Eliminator at the same Chennai location, which resulted in the planting of 48,000 trees. In the game, Akash Madhwal of MI bowled 17 dots while recording statistics of 5 for 5 in 3.2 overs.
A total of 67 dot balls were bowled in Qualifier 2 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, which is where GT defeated MI to secure their final position, representing the planting of 26,5000 trees.
45 dot balls were bowled in the final at the same Ahmedabad location when CSK defeated GT to win their fifth IPL championship, which equates to 22,500 trees being planted. Therefore, a total of 1,47,000 trees will be planted as part of the BCCI and Tata Group’s India Green project because 294 dot balls were bowled during the IPL 2023 playoffs, including the Qualifier 1, Eliminator, Qualifier 2, and Finals.
Through their dot balls during the playoff stages, players like Madhwal, Mohammed Shami, Rashid Khan, and Matheesha Pathirana were some of the major contributors to this project, resulting in the planting of over lakh trees throughout India.
