 With IPL 2021 having ended this month i.e. October, fans are already waiting for the new IPL 2022 season to get underway. IPL 2022 Mega Auction Date

 The exact date has not been finalised yet for the mega auction by the BCCI, but most probably, the auction should take place between December 2021 and January 2022. IPL usually starts in March and ends by May but next year it might get extended till the month of June.

New Teams in IPL 2022

There has been an addition of 2 new teams in the league, namely- Ahmedabad and Lucknow. The Lucknow franchise was won by Sanjiv Goenka’s RPSG group for a stupendous Rs. 7,090 crore, whereas second ones to win the bid for the Ahmedabad franchise were private equity firm- CVC Capital Partners.

What are the new rules for players retention in the IPL 2022 Mega Auction?

Although there are no specified set of updates or any kind of clarification for the auction, it is assumed that there is going to be an introduction of certain new rules, now that two new franchises have come into the picture.

  • Retention: The new rules say that a franchise can only retain a total of 4 players from their present squad before the IPL 2022 auction. So as per the rules, a maximum of 3 Indian players and 2 overseas players can be retained by each franchise. As per the board, except the retained ones, the sale of all other players will take place from the Auction table.

Purse of every IPL Franchise

 About the purse of each franchise, IPL 2022 mega auction will clear it up as to what will the total purse of each franchise be. Teams could spend only INR 85 crores on the players in IPL 2021, but this will change this time with BCCI looking to raise the cap.  The total purse value has been increased by INR 5 crores this time, i.e from 85 crores to 90 crores.
