Thomas H. Lee died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound in his Manhattan office at the age of 78 years. Medics who were called to the scene pronounced the businessman dead on the spot.
As per the official statement of the spokesperson Michael Sitrick, “His family is extremely saddened by Tom’s death. While the whole world knew him as one of the pioneers in the private equity business and he was a successful businessman, we knew him as a devoted husband, father, grandfather, sibling, friend, and philanthropist who always put others’ needs before his own and helps everyone as much as he can.”

Thomas’ father worked for the Shoe Corporation of Canada and he was the chairperson of this Corporation. Lee also donated $22 million to Harvard University.
