A former lawyer, Alex Murdaugh, who earlier made headlines for allegedly killing his wife, Maggie and 22-year-old son, Paul, is once again in headlines as he was sentenced to life in prison with him being sent to the Kirkland Correctional Institute

For those who are still unversed, let us tell you, Alex Murdaugh, who’s a South Carolina based attorney, who’s in the custody of the state prison system will be spending rest of his life behind bars as he was sentenced to life with parole on Friday in connection with the brutal murder of his wife and son.

The convicted double murderer, Alex, is now in the custody of the State Carolina Department of Corrections. He will be spending a total of 2 months with “some of the most violent and dangerous offenders in the state.”
As per reports, Alex was transferred to Columbia’s Kirkland correctional institution on Friday afternoon after he was taken on a roughly 90-minute trip from Walterboro.
For the next 45 days he will be staying in the Columbia’s Kirkland Reception and Evaluation Centre, that is widely popular for being one with the highest security.

Where is prison for Murdaugh?
A spokesperson for SCDOC says that all male inmates are first taken to Kirkland Correctional Institution in Columbia, it’s a maximum security prison. As a part of the process, Alex is expected to have more evaluations including his mental and physical health checks and these evaluations will be determined by both South Carolina’s 21 prisons. Later he will be sent to spend his sentence duration.
For those who are wondering, let us tell you, Kirkland Correctional Institution is a state prison for males and is located in the capital city of the state, Colombia, Richland County.
The institution is owned and operated by the Department of Corrections, South Carolina. Kirkland has a special role in South Carolina’s prison system.
Now coming back to the murder case, let us tell you, on 7 June, 2021, Maggie and her 22-year-old son, Paul was shot dead in their home. The victim’s husband was arrested in connection with the case and was charged with the two counts of murders.
