Crystal Villegas is not the first one
The heartbreak extends further with reports from Daily Mail confirming that Crystal Villegas is the ninth American to succumb to meningitis contracted from the same Mexican clinic. Two of Villegas’s friends, who also underwent cosmetic procedures there, met the same fate. Emphasizing the importance of being cautious about such procedures, Juan Tapia warns:
“Please, please be aware of the risks of cosmetic surgeries. Our hope is to spread awareness so that people can actually do the research. It changes everything. Everything. It’s not worth it. I wish this was all just a bad dream that we could wake up from and go back to the day before the surgery and somehow, someway, convince her not to go.”
Fungal Meningitis: Look at deadly disease that took Crystal Villegas’s life
Fungal meningitis is a severe infection resulting in swelling of the lining around the brain and spine. In most cases, it’s caused due to germs entering and infecting the body, often after surgery.
Most vulnerable are those with compromised immune systems, like patients with HIV or cancer. Despite straightforward diagnosis procedures, treatment for fungal meningitis remains challenging, requiring patients to undergo prolonged medication cycles.
Common symptoms of this disease encompass headaches, stiff neck, fever, vomiting, nausea, altered mental state, and in some severe cases, hallucinations.
Crystal Villegas will be remembered by many
Crystal Villegas, besides being an influencer, was a loving wife and mother, leaving behind her husband and three children. Details about her memorial and funeral services remain pending.
In light of these events, it’s crucial for people to be well-informed and exercise caution when considering cosmetic surgeries, understanding the potential risks involved, especially when opting for procedures abroad.
