What Exactly Happened in Chapter 57
In the prior part of Infinite Mage, we witnessed Professor Neid give a grave warning in a 250-year-old presentation on village warfare. Shock at the sight of Eruki in the grip of a demon quickly gave way to amusement as the drama between Neid and her elder sweetheart Shirone played out.
There was a romantic tinge to the story when Neid and Shirone kissed during their emotional reunion. Cerielle’s efforts to calm Amy’s fears weren’t without their share of strain. Despite Eruki’s interruption, Neid and Shirone kept telling their story. It came to light that Neid had encountered a book six months prior that detailed demonic beings pursuing individuals through the underworld.
At midnight, when a bell rang, Neid still said he hadn’t seen a ghost. What has happened sets up the next chapters to have a similarly compelling plot. Will Shirone’s explosion of wonder and determination to become the best mage, despite it all, enable him to achieve his goal?
