This accolade marks a significant milestone for Piccadily Distilleries who are the proud creators of Indri whisky based in the state of Haryana with Siddharth Sharma having founded it.

Indri Trini, as the name suggests, is named after its location and the single malt whisky launched late in 2021.  With a score of 91 out of 100, the whisky is among six Indian whiskies that made it to the list, competing with spirits from across the world and the whisky has also won at the World Whiskey Awards and Dom Roskrow’s New Wizards Awards, all within four months of launching.

Apart from being the name of the village, Indri is also a derivation of the Sanskrit word Indris, which denotes the five senses and Trini refers to the three different wooden barrels that the whisky is produced in- ex-bourbon, ex-wine and PX sherry casks. The velvety drink has a nutty, full-mouthed feel with an undertone of spices with scents of oak, vanilla, caramelised pineapple and black tea, among others, and enjoy the drink on the rocks or with water.

There are plans for a visitor centre in Indri, where guests can enjoy distillery tours and get a peek into how malts are made and matured and Indri Trini is currently available in Haryana, Goa, UP, Delhi and Bangalore; from Rs,3,100.

Indri Diwali Collector’s Edition 2023 will be accessible to whisky aficionados in Haryana by the end of October is to be priced at Rs.5,000.

The essence of Indri Whisky

Indri whisky is a distinguished product characterized by its peated profile, a distinctive feature in the world of whisky. The smoky flavor is achieved through the use of peat fires to dry malted barley with the intensity of the peat smoke determining the strength of this unique taste.

This distinguished Indian single malt is meticulously crafted using six-row barley and distilled in traditional, locally-made copper pot stills by blending modern technique with time-honored craftsmanship.

Tasting notes and availability

A sip of Indri whisky unveils a symphony of flavors, ranging from notes of smoky essence to candied dried fruits, toasted nuts, subtle spices, oak, and bittersweet chocolate. This harmonious amalgamation of tastes creates a sensory experience that leaves a lasting impression on every discerning palate.

While Indri whisky has already captured hearts across 19 states in India and 17 other countries, its availability is set to expand further. Starting November 2023, whisky aficionados in the United States and select European countries will have the opportunity to savor this exceptional Indian single malt.

The Whiskies of the World Awards

The Whiskies of the World Awards serves as a distinguished platform for distilleries worldwide to showcase their finest creations. This annual competition celebrates exceptional whiskies by providing an opportunity for producers to gain well-deserved recognition.

Indri whisky’s victory in this esteemed competition solidifies its position as a trailblazer in the global whisky scene, marking the first time an Indian whisky has claimed this prestigious title.

Single Malt Whisky

A single malt whisky in essence is the product of a singular distillery which is made using a single variety of malted grain, typically barley. Unlike blended whiskies, which combine malts from various distilleries, single malt is sourced exclusively from one distillery. While it can be a blend from multiple casks, as long as they originate from the same distillery, the resulting blend is still considered a single malt.

Noteworthy Indian Single Malts

India boasts a vibrant array of single malt whiskies, each with its own distinct character. Notable names in this category include the rich and robust Amrut Fusion, the exquisite Paul John Mithuna, the dual-casked marvel Rampur Double Cask Single Malt Whisky, the brilliantly crafted Paul John Brilliance, the velvety Rampur Asava, and the majestic Kamet Single Malt, among others.
