The Indian Women’s hockey team has declared a 16-member squad ahead of Tokyo Olympics 2020
Rani Rampal, who is an experienced forward player would be leading the team in the Tokyo Olympics. This will be Rani’s third appearance in an Olympics. The team had earlier participated in the 1980 Olympics and also in the 2016 Olympics.

The Indian Women’s hockey team is currently placed at the 10th position. The team has a good blend of both experienced and young players. Apart from Rampal, there are other players from the current squad who also participated in the 2016 Rio Olympics. The team has performed well under Rampal’s leadership and also went on to win a silver medal during the 2018 Asian Games and had also won the 2019 FIH Series.
The team is preparing and aiming for their first Olympics medal. So, let’s have a look at all the players who have been selected for the marquee event.

The Indian Women’s hockey squad for the Summer Olympics
1. Rani Rampal: She has been announced as the captain of the team and is also one of the country’s most experienced forwards. Her form is really important for India’s chances of winning a medal during the Tokyo Olympics. She has scored a total of 112 goals in the 226 games that she has played. She has been in her prime form and has also tasted success in the matches that she has played in the last few years.
2. Navneet Kaur: Kaur made her debut in 2012 and ever since she has been an important of the team. She belongs from Haryana and is going to make her debut for the Olympics this year.
3. Vandana Katariya: Just like Rani, she is also one of the experienced member of the team. Katariya was also the part of the 2016 Rio Olympics team and will be playing for the Olympics this year for the second time. She has scored a total of 58 goals in the 218 matches that she has played for the country.
4. Lalremsiami: She made her debut for India at the age of 21 in 2017. She was also the part of the 2018 team which had won a silver medal in the Asian Games. She would be making her Olympics debut this year and would be leaving no stone unturned to make a mark in the heart of the fans.
The other members included in the squad are: Sharmila Devi, Udita, Sushila Chanu, Navjot Kaur, Monika Malik, Neha Goyal, Nisha, Salima Tete, Deep Grace Ekka, Gurjit Kaur, Nikki Pradhan and Savita Punia.
