The Golden Boot is the Indian Super Leagueโs idea of rewarding the leading goal-scorer of that season. With the 2021-22 ISL season upon us, letโs take a look at the full list of winners of the golden boot since the commencement of the Indian Super League.
ISL: Full List Of Golden Boot Winners Till Date In The Indian Super League
2014-15 Winner: Elano
Having played for Manchester City, the Brazilian had signed a three-year contract with Chennaiyin FC and scored a beautiful free-kick against FC Goa in his debut game. By the time the season ended, Elano had 8 goals in 11 appearances to his name.
2015-16 Winner: Stiven Mendoza
The Marina Machans were extremely lucky that they had a forward like Mendoza in their squad who possessed exceptional ability to take on defenders and leave them stunned with his pace. He finished the season as the top-scorer with 13 goals in 16 appearances.
2016-17 Winner: Marcelinho
The Brazilian had found the back of the net a total of 10 times and provided 10 assists to grab the golden boot in the 2016-17 ISL season. The only player who came close to winning the boot was Iain Hume of Atk.
2017-18 Winner: Ferran Corominas
Corominas made history at the ISL as he is the only player to have bagged the golden boot twice. He was signed by FC Goa in 2017 and in Ferranโs debut season, the Spaniard scored 18 goals in 20 appearances, outscoring Bengaluru FCโs striking duo of Miku (15 goals) and Sunil Chhetri (14 goals).
2018-19 Winner: Ferran Corominas
Corominas earned the reputation of becoming ISLโs all-time top scorer with 48 goals to his name. The Spaniard in his second ISL season again clenched the golden boot after scoring 16 goals in 20 games.
2019-20 Winner: Nerijus Valskis
Lithuanian-forward Valskis gave Chennaiyin FC and ISL fans a season to remember as he scored 15 goals and provided 6 assists in the 2019-20 Indian Super League edition.
2020-21 Winner: Igor Angulo
In the 7th edition of ISL, FC Goaโs Igor Angulo and Atk Mohun Baganโs star player Roy Krishna were both tied for the golden boot as both the players had scored 14 goals in 21 games. But eventually Angulo emerged victorious because of his better goal-per-minute ratio.
