Indian F1 Drivers:ย It might be a dream of every child to become a race car driver, but there havenโt been a lot to accomplish the same.ย
While growing up, there are a lot of children who aspire to become race car drivers. But given the fierce sport Formula 1 racing is, the seen in India is not yet fully matured. There is no doubt that speed bring adrenaline and excitement in any form of motorsport which takes place in the world. However being a country of more than 3 Billion people, India never fails to surprise.
There have been only a couple of drivers from India who have been able to make it into Formula 1. But others have made it big in some or the other motorsport. Be it WRC, A1 GP etc. Lets take a look at those initially.
Indian F1 Drivers
- Armaan Ebrahim– He had the privilege and experience in representing India in a host of motorsport events all around the globe. Armaan is the son of veteran race driver, Akbar Ebrahim and has featured in many race series, including one with firmer Red Bull Driver, David Coulthard in 2009.
Armaan Ebrahim has raced FIA GT Series for BMW Auto Service Team India and A1 GP.
- Aditya Patel– This Indian race car driver represents Audi Motorsports India. Aditya Patel has represented the country in multiple race series like- F-BMW, ADAC GT Masters, International GT and also in the Audi R8 LMS Cup.
Aditya Patel is the relative of Kamlesh Patel, who had years of experience in Karting.
- Gaurav Gill– He is involved in Rally racing which is all about judging risks and taking complete control of the car. Raid de Himalayas is one such Rally Racing event hosted by India and Gaurav Gill was one dominated champion in that competition for years.
Now apart from a special mention to these Indian Motorsports Personalities, lets talk about those couple of drivers who have actually made it into the Formula 1-
- Narain Kartikeyan
The race driver who changed the scenario for motorsports in India by putting the country on the mainstream of international racing. Narain Kartikeyan was the Indian Driver to ever be a part of the Formula 1. He raced for Team Jordan in 2005, but did not find much success as compared to his achievements in 24-hours Le Mans and AI GP.
- Karun Chandhok
He picked up from exactly where Narain Kartikeyan had left. Karun inherited by racing DNA from his father, Vicky Chandhok, who also was a racer. Karun Chandhok raced for Lotus and HRT in the Formula 1 Championship and also in the FIA World Endurance Championship.
He is also the only Indian Driver to compete in the Formula E Championship.
